Random Tuesday Thoughts

Welcome to Random Tuesday, a fun blog hop brought to you by "The Un Mom", head over and check out her super cool graphics.

- Random thoughts about Christmas -

1. Is Christmas a Christian holiday? My Jewish co-worker thinks it is, but all my atheists and agnostic friends celebrate Christmas and they wouldn't be caught dead celebrating something Christian. So friends - what does Christmas mean to you?

2. For the past 3 days I've been making Christmas cookies - 14 dozen in total. I had the brilliant idea (if I may say so myself) to use up all the Halloween candy in Christmas cookies. I started with a double batch Chocolate Cookie recipe (minus the chips), cut up/unwrapped all the candies and made the following styles:
  • Kit Kat
  • Hersey's Milk Chocolate
  • 2 squares of a Godiva chocolate bar
  • M&M (not cut up)
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
Also made 2 dozen peanut butter and 5 dozen Mocha Sandwich Cookies. I'm giving them away as gifts.

3. Shutterfly was kind enough to send me 50 free Christmas cards for writing a post about them, now I need to find 50 friends! So last night as I was updating my list I had to make a few changes:
  • 1 death
  • 2 moves
  • 1 divorce - two new addresses
  • 1 friend needs a home
  • need to get addresses for 20 more friends
4. South Florida has gotten a cold spell, 40 degrees today. So timely for Christmas! I'm so excited to break out the sweaters today!!

5. Our tree is up, the lights died the next day. No decorations are on the tree - why did we buy so many breakable things before having kids? Why didn't we use that time to compile a nice collection of soft non-breakable pretty objects?

Enjoy Random Tuesday!

I had forgotten that when I took the tree down last year (and my son was 2) I made a box of unbreakable things for him and then a separate box for the good ornaments. So this year, I had a box just for him and he put them all on the tree. It worked out nicely for my sanity.

We started collecting ornaments for Turbo when he was little. We have a few for Bruiser now too. We don't get out the ones I had as a child to often--there are some I need to find and put into rotation. For the longest time we only put garland and lights on the tree before kids. Decorating was kind of a pain when I was the only one to do it.

Those cookies sound great!!

We have a box for special ornaments we have collected from places we visit and a box for generic ones and another box for ones the kids have made. We keep them seperate and when we get them out we hand them to the kids to put on the tree rather than let the kids just get into them alone.

I love this post for multiple reasons, but this is yet another. It's good to hear what others are doing. I have a box of ornaments and it's a hodgepodge. So, with some creativity on my part and with these few ideas to encourage me, I am going to re-box and re-organize. Thanks, ladies!

Now, for some thoughts:
Yes, I think that Christmas is a Christian holiday because my household and I have made it that way. For others, it is not so much a Christian holiday as they may have substituted Santa for Christ. That is why I don't teach my kids about Santa. I want their total focus to be on Christ and the sacrifice and love that it took for Him to come to earth on our behalf.

Hey! Send some of the chocolate cookies to me! Godiva and the mocha sandwich cookies sounds good! Wow! :) Are you coming up north for the holidays? Would love to see you! Email me!

We have over a foot of snow and today was our 2nd school cancellation! Ugh! This is going to be a Lloonnngggggg winter!

Christmas can be celebrated by anyone because there are people who focus only on the Santa/gifts aspect and there are others (such as my family) who celebrate it as a Christian holiday - the birth of Jesus and what that means to us.

I remember last year, my first Christmas with my baby, how much more it meant to me.

Oh and your cookies sound fabulous!

Christmas is a christain holiday, the celebration of Christ.
But I think many non-christains still celebrate just because it's a fun, magical time of year!

BTW, I'm a new follower... found your blog on the blog hop. Please stop by mine when you get a chance... :)

I think Christmas is a Christian holiday. I find the comment about non-believers to be rather funny.
That is a heck of a lot of cookies! Wow. I haven't been that ambitious yet.
Don't have kids...but realized how many breakable ornaments I have when the cat was a kitten. I lost a handful of ornaments that became toys and ended up down the stairs. :(

I'm with Amanda, kinda funny (and baffled) to read about your non-believers. Do they have any idea what CHRISTmas is about? Why it's celebrated? And the origin of it?! How can they say they wouldn't be caught dead celebrating something Christian, when Christmas (and Easter) is all about CHRIST!!!
Giving gifts can be traced back. And Santa is SAINT Nick...hello?!?!

Sorry, but for non-believers to celebrate something in which they have no idea what they are celebrating just ASTONISHES ME :P

Sorry, I'll stop now.
